We want to have a huge family session done for my parent’s 40th wedding anniversary…there will be 23 adults and 9 million kids…how much will that cost? Sorry, no can do! At this time, I am only photographing ‘single family units’ (IE: parents and their own kids…no aunts, cousins or great-grandpa’s allowed).
My last photographer charged us $50 for the session and included 100 images on a CD, do you offer anything similar? Unfortunately, no. I am a custom boutique photography studio. This means I take a limited amount of sessions every week (my happy place is 2 to 4 sessions per week), and I spend a lot of time working with each client before and after the session to ensure that they have the best experience possible. If I did what I do for $50 a pop, I would probably make a higher income collecting cans on the side of the road….okay, I just threw that job out there…I have no idea what an average can collector makes. Feel free to chime in and correct me!
Do you own all of the cute props and hats I’ve seen on your blog? Yes! Most of them anyways…I love to prop-shop, it keeps my creativity flowing! If you have a prop idea you’d like to try~please give me a shout, and we’ll put our heads together!
Hi! I had a baby 3 weeks ago, and I’d love to get some newborn pictures taken, when can I get in? Sadly, you have already missed the ‘newborn stage’…yes, it goes by that fast. At 3 weeks, your baby is looking a little funky (WHAT, they all go through that phase…bad acne, peeling skin, eyes-crossed, stick legs poking straight out). I am still happy to photograph your baby after the first 2 weeks, it will just be a different type of session than the ‘curled/sleepy’ newborn images that you see on my blog. Great, now all your thinking is “Kristen said my baby is ugly”.
Hi! I am interested in photography and I’m wondering if I could job shadow you for a few sessions? I actually get this question quite a bit…and while I’m not going to ‘never say never’…at this time, I don’t think it’s wise for my business to train other photographers for free. There are a lot of amazing photographers out there sharing their knowledge for free…and while I think it’s great that we work in a community of such giving individuals…I am not that selfless. And I don’t have time. And (I know that many will want to throw stones at me) I feel like you need to put in your dues. Go to school, attend workshops, join forums, practice, practice, practice. Now you all think I’m a brat, right? Sigh…I get that a lot.
What kind of camera & lenses & computer programs do you use? I shoot with a Nikon D5100, and I use my 50mm 1.4 and 24-70 2.8 MOST of the time. Once in awhile I put on my 85mm 1.4, but I haven’t learned to love it yet. I use lightroom to cull images, adjust exposure, and convert to jpeg. I use photoshop for the rest. No specific actions, I’ve been working on keeping my editing style clean and simple.
Are you shooting with natural light or artificial lights in your studio? 90% of the work I do in my studio is using natural light…which is why I need to book my sessions in between the hours of 10am and 3pm…Outside of that timeline, the lighting is yuck. I do use studio lights for some of my work, and I try to use it a bit for each session to add a different look to my clients final gallery.
